Der Lissabon-Prozess wurde im Jahr 2000 lanciert, als sich die EU vornahm, Europa zur wettbewerbsfähigsten, wissensbasierten Region der Welt zu machen.

Nach zehn Jahren ging der Lissabon-Prozess 2010 zu Ende, bzw. wurde er durch die EUROPA 2020 Strategie abgelöst.
